Meet the man who is practically the patron saint of Gracearchy.

Daryl Davis is a blues and rock-n-roll pianist who spent three decades touring with Chuck Berry and other notable acts.

Daryl has also been the subject of an award-winning documentary and is a sought-after speaker because…

Music is Daryl’s profession, but race relations is his obsession.

Daryl is a black man who has 26 KKK robes hanging in his closet. People quit and gave these garments to him!

How did this happen? How did he come to this unique and inspirational calling?

In Part One of this two-part interview, we explore how Daryl Davis became “The Klan Whisperer.”

Bucket List Guest

Bill Protzmann and I mapped out what Gracearchy with Jim Babka would be, back in early 2022. We made a list of guests we wanted to bring on the show.

At the top of that list was Daryl Davis.

Why?

Because Grace is more profound than tolerance and deeper than forgiveness. Grace is empathy and favor for someone who has said or done something we don’t like. It’s the attempt to understand someone instead of simply condemning them to enemy status.

It’s the New Commandments found in the red letters of the New Testament. Frankly, it’s a key ingredient of self-governance instead of state governance.

Daryl Davis’s life and work exemplify the living model of grace – he’s a living, breathing, patron saint of Gracearchy.

In Part 2, we’ll cover “How” Mr. Davis does his work and even contrast it with a popular but ungraceful ethos. Today, we start with his story in this short, commute-length episode.
